    MEET THE ARTIST

Silvia was born in Sofia, Bulgaria, in 1976. She studied at the National Academy of Design in New York. Silvia completed First English Language High School and Secondary Polytechnic High School No. 149 in Sofia, following which she obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from Fairfield University in the USA, and a MBA in Business Administration from the Cyprus International Institute of Management in Cyprus.

Silvia has been painting since early childhood, but started exhibiting on a regular basis since 2000 all the while holding full time jobs in the area of management consulting, business development and non-financial real estate asset development, as well as insurance broking, dairy-processing and export, and translation and interpretation services. At present, art has become a full time job for her through which she is currently enriching her knowledge to manage art not only from an idea and production point of view, but also in terms of applying new marketing channels, finding contacts and making entry into and adapting to an unknown for her art circles and markets, as well as continuing to look for new media to utilize and experiment with in her works which has been instrumental in giving her new ways to visually present her ideas.

She has carried out a number of solo and group exhibitions in Bulgaria, the United States, Hungary, Turkey, France, Belgium and Luxembourg. In her professional career as an artist during the past 20 years Silvia has been dwelling on various selected topics and events having taken place in the world which she has encountered in her daily undertakings. She draws her inspiration from her many travels around the globe and the people she meets, the places  she visits and the experiences has. She tries to capture these through the lens of her camera, as well as enrich their interpretation through the various books and articles  she reads to educate herself. This is how ideas are born for each of her bodies of work. Each project consists of multiple works, often produced in a range of different media, grouped around a specific theme and meaning. Some of the topics Silvia has chosen include: symbolic cities; doors and bridges as a symbol of connectedness and passage of ideas; trees and flowers in time – sacred flora and its utilization in human sustenance and healing, as well as its ecological preservation;  words utilized worldwide whose meaning is shared across different cultures; as well as the shared aspects of the people’s lives on the Balkans.

The connecting element underlying all of Silvia’s projects to date are the ideas whose universality unites us, involving different aspects of our lives: social, cultural, religious, ecological and political ones. The paintings include images of words, people, cities, architecture, roads, flora, ecology, religions, etc. These are all ideas which transcend time and borders and “talk” to audiences of various backgrounds.

One of the most influential of all sci-fi films — and one of the most controversial — Stanley Kubrick’s 2001 is a delicate, poetic meditation on the ingenuity — and folly — of mankind. With 2001: A Space Odyssey, director Stanley Kubrick redefined the limits of filmmaking in this classic science fiction masterpiece; a contemplation on the nature of humanity. 2001: A Space Odyssey spans from the dawn of man to its title year. Stone Age Earth: In the presence of a mysterious black obelisk, pre-humans discover the use of tools — and weapons — violently taking first steps toward intelligence. 1999: On Earth’s moon astronauts uncover another mysterious black obelisk. 2001: Between Earth and Jupiter, the spacecraft’s intelligent computer makes a mistake that kills most of the human crew — then continues to kill to hide its error. Beyond Time: The sole survivor of the journey to Jupiter ascends to the next level of humanity. Based on the short story The Sentinel by Arthur C. Clarke, 2001: A Space Odyssey showed the way for all other special effects-laden films that followed.

Projection followed by discussion moderated by Arsène Bürger.

2001 Space Odysey, Directed by Stanley Kubrick, Screenplay by Stanley Kubrick, Arthur C. Clarke, Starring Keir Dullea, Gary Lockwood, USA 1968, 140 min, ENG version

[Journal, 12,02,2019, NORA SCHLEICH]

Sieben motivierte Köpfe haben sich zusammengefunden, um Luxemburgs Musikszene unsicher zu machen: Michel Schumann, Jeff und Patrice Petry, Lex Schaul, David Li, Bruno Venãncio und Lex Kauffmann sind letztes Jahr mit ihrer Alternative-Rockband „Drife“ an den Start gegangen.
